We’re all on a quest to find the right burger. A universal quest that’s almost existential for all foodies everywhere. But what makes a burger ‘perfect’? How do we even begin to measure the deliciousness of this sandwich? The ideal meat to bun ratio? The right amount of cheese? How crunchy the pickle is? How perfect the sauce is, marinating in a bed of vegetables? We all have our preferences, but the question begs, where do we find it?
So far, I have compiled a list of places that I’ve personally rated as Sydney’s greatest and the most popular burgers:
- The Grill On George (Windsor) http://thegrillongeorge.wixsite.com/tgog
Sometimes the best burger joints are the ones that are worth travelling for. If you’re ever in the North West – particularly in Windsor, The Grill on George is a haven for delicious char-grilled burgers for great value and generous portions.
- Chur Burger (Surry Hills/Darlinghurst) http://www.churburger.com.au/
‘Juicy’ and ‘gourmet’ are words that come to mind when describing the burgers at Chur Burger. If you’re ever around Surry or Darlinghurst, drop by and try their stuff. They serve spiked milkshakes, beers, sweet potato fries and good vibes.
- Grill’d Burgers (all around Sydney) http://www.grilld.com.au/
Grill’d Burgers emerged as one of the more earlier favourites before the hype around artisanal burgers. Grill’d Burgers is a chain restaurant available at different and convenient locations around Sydney. If you like your burgers delightfully sandwiched between a crisp bun with thick cut patties, you’re in the right place.
- Burger Project (World Square) http://www.burgerproject.com/
Imagine you’re in a lab doing a science project and the experiment was dissecting a burger. That’s what it feels like when you’re eating at Burger Project. Your tray of food is eaten under a incandescent lamp but you don’t even care about the odd minimal interiors because the food is too good.
The vibe and taste is truly American, a great place to hit up if you’re ever in Town Hall.
- Mary’s (Newtown)
If you’re after a tasty diner-style McDonalds burger replica served with shoe string fries in a very loud environment, then Mary’s is the place to go to. Edgelords everywhere gather around this bar and you might not get a seat, but Mary’s provides the best sandwich chaser to go with your craft beer.
And there you have it. I hope you enjoyed my list and wish you all the best of luck in finding your own favourite burger place!
